Self Portrait
Title: Golden Necklace
|
Exhibition Text: My piece was inspired by the painting "Self - Portrait" by Van Gogh because he uses thin brush strokes to create an entire image. I have always liked the idea of all these small brush strokes that merge together to give a very strange detailed image that blends very well yet is all individual strokes. Also I mixed it with Baroque because My main focus was girl with the pearl earing" by Johannes Vermeer
PlaningI started out with having a layer of gesso. Then I used as projector ton outline my piece with the scanner. With my picture that I printed out I had an outline of the colors I wasted to use. Since I wanted to incoporate baroque techniques. My Inspiration was The girl with the pearl earring

Experience.
Over all working again with painting it was great.
Pocess
Going back to the process I stared with the black background. then outline of my hair. For the background i used oil paint things because they have better coverage than acrylic. I did try with acrylic but i had to about 3-4 layers to get it pitch black.

In here I am done painting my shirt. Again I decided to stick with acrylic. Then with my hair is when i used Van Gogh. I wanted it to have the type of brush strocks coming together to form a movement and create waves.

This is the picture I used as my self portrait. I went on of this
"The Girl wit the Pearl Earring" by Johnnes Vermeer Comparing it to the girl with the pearl earning She is in angle. But also wanted to be like Van Gogh Self portrait.

As I kept on working on thee face I first die a light base. Then build it up trying to mimic my skin tone.Later on added some high lights and shading
|
Here again I was still working on the skin, toning and shading. I found it easier to actually start of with the lights colors and the build up from there. Not only its better but also creates layers so it looks creme rich and if you mess u you can always come back to add a bit of darker shades.
