Digital Manipulation
15 September 2015
On my digital collage I hit my main ideas but one thing I could have change was the order me and my mom where. I feel it would have been better for me to be in the middle and be part of "both worlds".
Anther thing could have been the feather it make it look a bit more natural and not as sharp as I feel it is. |
Exhibition Text:
For my digital collage I wanted to incorporate who I am today and what has built me to that, which is my mother. She has influence me a lot in so many ways. Also motivates me to better be different and try new things every day. Yet my artist connection was Frida Kahlo. She was my inspiration by one of her painting called Portrait of Frida’s Family. Frida’s art piece was my artist where my inspiration for my digital collage. I wanted to portrait my family where I came from and where I am today.

Background.
My art piece that I did with photo shop is a representation on what I believe growing up. Something that I have strong believes about thanks to the one person I own everything to, my mom.
Growing up with divorced parents made me view life differently from others. To many kids my age I was forced to grow up quick be responsible and most of all independent. To me being independent is just not forgetting about your parents once you “grow up” but to actually take care of them like they once did to you when you were little. To be independent is to not wait for someone to do things for you or wait till someone offers you a chance on something. To your own risk see what out there in life have some motivation on becoming a better you.
Coming from a background where those morals where implied to me ever since little and you get to think differently from your peers around you. It can be difficult to stick to the morals that your parent grew up and how you live in a different standard base country. Being from a Hispanic culture can set many labels that can either be bad or good. Many people see the corrupt side of being Hispanic rather than to give them a chance.

Artist Inspiration
Like I had mentioned before my artist inspiration was Frida Kahlo. In Her art painting the meaning of her piece was family and the symbol of respect. For her art painting she just has the heads of her parents and grandfathers. Almost as a family tree. And in the background the place where she grew up. Her native land. I took that and wanted to incorporate my own style. So I use a full body picture and a picture from where I came from. Where I was born. Now the place that I grew up was in Chicago and that were I cindering my home. But I’m still proud from where I come from. And what my mom has done to do for me to be where I am today.
Success and failures
Using the digital manipulation was a new opportunity. I was very new with concept first I had to choose what images to put in my collage. I had to watch more videos in which I did. Finding the right instruments and manipulation a to use. I had the most difficulty trying to understand the whole cutting and pasting and how to part the images that you wanted into a clean one. Also once I already had one part done to go back to the other image and start all over again. But on highs that I had I would learn from my mistakes. It sounds cliche but it is true, from what I didn't want to I would learn new things along the way. And I would continue to take notes and reflect upon them. Another thing would be trying to figure out how to soften the edges of the images and not make them too harsh. So when I would have all of my images together it didn't look sharp but instead as if it would all be one whole image.
Reflection
Over all this project was an amazing opportunity to learn and understand Photoshop. Everything seem so easy and looks very easy to use but it's not until you are actually using it you get to value it. There are still plenty of other things that I want to keep on learning more about it.
